The people of Umuasua have honoured one of their illustrious sons, Hon. Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, member representing Isiukwuato state constituency with an Award of Honour in recognition of his outstanding service, dedication to grassroots development, and contributions to community growth and humanity at large.
The award was presented amid cheers and applause during the Umuasua 2025 End of Year Celebration, a colourful event that brought together community leaders, stakeholders, sons and daughters of the land, and invited guests.
The ceremony also featured the official launching of a ₦200 million Civic and Skill Acquisition Centre, a landmark project designed to empower youths, promote skills development, and strengthen economic opportunities within the community. The dual significance of the event underscored Umuasua’s commitment to sustainable development and its resolve to celebrate individuals whose efforts continue to uplift the people.
Presenting the award, community leaders praised Hon. Johnson for his consistent engagement with the grassroots, his accessibility to constituents, and his unwavering advocacy for development-oriented initiatives. They described the honour as a collective expression of gratitude from a people who have seen tangible benefits from his service and leadership.
While accepting the award, Hon. Lucky Johnson expressed deep appreciation to the people of Umuasua, using the President General of the Umuasua Progressive Association, Mazi Ozo N. Igbokwe, to convey his gratitude to the organisers and the entire community. He said the recognition was both humbling and motivating.
“I am deeply honoured by this award, and I accept it with gratitude and a renewed sense of responsibility,” Hon. Johnson said.
“To be recognised by your own people is one of the greatest honours anyone can receive. It tells me that our collective efforts are being felt at the grassroots.”
He described the award as a reminder of the trust the people have placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to serving with integrity and dedication. According to him, development is most meaningful when it directly improves the lives of ordinary people.
“This award is not just for me alone; it belongs to every stakeholder who believes in the progress of Umuasua,” he added.
“Our journey as a community is about unity, selfless service, and building structures that will outlive us. I remain committed to supporting initiatives that empower our youths, strengthen our institutions, and secure a better future for our people.”
Hon. Johnson also commended the vision behind the Civic and Skill Acquisition Centre, noting that the project aligns with the urgent need to equip young people with practical skills. He said such investments are critical to reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance at the community level.
The event also witnessed the presence of Chief Kenneth Ahia, SAN, who was equally honoured with an award. In his remarks, Ahia thanked the organisers and guests for finding time out of their busy schedules to attend the celebration and support Umuasua’s development drive.
