Umuahia South Rep, Hon Obioma Calls for Continued Investment in Health Sector for Sustainable Progress


Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, Chief Whip and Umuahia South Representative in the Abia State House of Assembly, has urged the government to prioritize investment in the health sector, emphasizing its crucial role in achieving sustainable progress and development in the state.

Speaking, Hon. Tommy Obioma stressed that a healthy population is essential for economic growth, social stability, and overall well-being. He highlighted the need for continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, equipment, and personnel to ensure access to quality healthcare services for all citizens.

The lawmaker commended the efforts of Governor Alex Otti's administration in addressing the challenges in the state's healthcare system, including increased allocation to health in the 2024 budget, and resolution of salary disputes.

Hon. Obioma called for collaboration between the government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations to achieve sustainable health sector transformation. 
He emphasized the importance of primary healthcare as the backbone of a resilient health system, echoing the World Health Organization's (WHO) call for efficient investment in primary healthcare.

Hon. Obioma's appeal for continued investment in the health sector aligns with the state government's commitment to prioritizing healthcare as a critical aspect of its development agenda. 

Recall that the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week program, will be conducted in all primary health centers across the state from June 17th to 23rd, 2024.
This year's Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week will include activities such as immunization, deworming, vitamin A supplementation, malaria medication for pregnant women, birth registration, family planning services, and HIV/AIDS counseling and testing, among others.

Chief Whip Emeka Obioma, has reiterated his support for the program and urged
his Constituents in Umuahia South to cue into the activities of the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week.
He encouraged all parents and guardians to take advantage of the free services being offered during the week to ensure the health and well-being of their children.

The lawmaker's emphasis on sustainable progress resonates with the WHO's vision of "Health for All" and the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda for the health sector.
