Abia Lawmaker, Emeka Obioma Lauds the role of the Media in Shaping Public Discourse


Hon Emeka Obioma, Umuahia South Rep and Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly has said that the 8th Assembly has consistently shown its dedication to supporting the media, acknowledging its crucial role in shaping public discourse and advancing democratic values

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, the Lawmaker stated, "The media plays a vital role in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. As lawmakers, we recognize the importance of a free and independent press in holding us accountable to the people."

This commitment is reflected in the Assembly's efforts to create an enabling environment for media freedom, ensuring that journalists can effectively discharge their duties without undue interference. 
The Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Otti, has also demonstrated its resolve to work with the media, viewing them as worthy partners in the New Abia project.

"The Abia State House of Assembly has taken concrete steps to support media development. We believe that a strong media is essential to a healthy democracy," Hon. Obioma explained.

Hon. Obioma also emphasized the importance of media in democratic societies, citing its potential to empower citizens and shape the public agenda. 
"A well-informed citizenry is the backbone of democracy. We will continue to support the media in its vital role of informing and educating the public," he added.
