Ohuhu Iriji Festival: Hon Anderson Akaliro Urges Preservation of Cultue, hails Ohuhu People

The people of Ohuhu, Umuahia, Abia State, came together on Saturday, August 3, 2024, to celebrate their rich cultural heritage at the New Yam festival, also known as Iriji. 
The event was a grand display of the community's unique traditions and customs, attracting people from far and near.

The festival was kicked off in grand style, with the Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency in Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Anderson Akaliro, Esq., expressing his joy at the huge success of this year's event. 
In an interview with newsmen, the Lawmaker said, "I am thrilled to see the massive turnout of our people and visitors from other places. This year's Iriji festival has been a huge success, and I am grateful to everyone who made it possible."

Hon. Akaliro continued, "The Iriji festival is a big ceremony in Ohuhu land, and it brings our people together. I am happy to see our sons and daughters come together to celebrate our rich cultural heritage. It is a testament to the strength and unity of our community."

Speaking on the significance of the festival, Akaliro remarked, "The Iriji festival is not just about celebrating the new yam harvest; it is about showcasing our rich cultural heritage to the world. It is about preserving our traditions and customs for future generations."

The Umuahia North Rep also commended the people of Ohuhu for their generosity and accommodating nature, demonstrated during the festival. 
"I am proud to see our people welcoming visitors from all walks of life and sharing our culture with them. It is a true reflection of the Ohuhu spirit," he said.
