International Day of the Girl Child: Girls Deserve Equal Opportunities – OziomaChi

In a passionate call to action, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe Oziomachi, the Bende North Rep in the Abia State House of Assembly, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of girls in his constituency. Marking the International Day of the Girl Child, Oziomachi emphasized the need for increased investment in education, healthcare, and protection for young girls in Abia State and across Nigeria.

Speaking, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe stressed the importance of ensuring that the Girl-Child have equal access to quality education, noting that education is a powerful tool in breaking cycles of poverty and fostering societal development. He urged government bodies, civil society, and the private sector to work together to create more opportunities for girls in areas such as science, technology, and leadership.

"Today, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering the girl child. We must ensure that every girl in Abia has the opportunity to reach her full potential, free from discrimination, violence, or any form of inequality," he stated. "We will continue to promote policies that safeguard girls' rights and enhance their future prospects, ensuring that they are well-equipped to contribute to the growth and progress of our state."

The lawmaker highlighted ongoing initiatives in Bende North aimed at supporting girls, including scholarship programs for young women in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, vocational training opportunities, and mentorship programs designed to inspire leadership and career growth. 

He also expressed concern over the rising cases of child marriage and gender-based violence in some communities and called for stricter enforcement of laws protecting girls from abuse and exploitation.

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11, aims to highlight the challenges faced by girls worldwide while promoting their empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. 
This year’s underscores the importance of creating environments where girls can thrive and become leaders in their communities.

In conclusion, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe Chimdi reiterated his promise to keep pushing for legislative reforms and community programs that will shape a brighter future for girls in Abia and beyond. 
"The future of our society lies in the hands of our Children. We must give them every opportunity to succeed," he said.
