Umuahia, Abia State -
In a heartfelt tribute, the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Engr. Chinedum Orji, extolled the virtues of the late Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu, describing him as a man who left behind indelible legacies that will stand the test of time.
Engr. Orji highlighted Dr. Onu's significant contributions to the development of Nigeria, particularly during his tenure as the Governor of Abia State and later as the Minister of Science and Technology.
"Dr. Onu was a leader who exemplified dedication and service. His contributions to the growth of this nation, especially in the fields of governance and scientific advancement, will not be forgotten," Engr. Orji stated. He emphasized that Dr. Onu's impact on Abia State and Nigeria at large is a testament to his commitment to public service and nation-building.
Orji also commended the current Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, for his thoughtful decision to rename the Abia State Polytechnic in honor of Dr. Onu.
"Naming the state polytechnic after Dr. Onu is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the progress of our state and country," he added.
Dr. Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu passed away in April this year at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, four children, and other relatives who are mourning his departure to eternal glory.
His legacy, however, remains a beacon of inspiration for current and future generations.
