The Igbo World Union (IWU) has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to act decisively against Lukarawa, a new terrorist group reportedly emerging in the north-western Nigerian states of Sokoto and Kebbi.
The IWU cautioned against handling Lukarawa with "kid gloves," warning that the group could pose a major threat similar to Boko Haram if not addressed promptly.
In a recent statement, the IWU President-General, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta, Kjw, Ksm, JP called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s national security strategies to tackle any threats to peace and stability.
He emphasized that a clear and firm approach would send a strong message about Nigeria’s resolve to confront terrorism in all forms.
Dr. Nnanta, who is popularly called Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, encouraged the government to address potential security concerns in the region proactively to avoid the escalation seen in the past with other groups.
He warned that inaction or a lenient stance could compromise national stability, urging officials to demonstrate their commitment to maintaining peace across Nigeria.
The IWU also called on security agencies to adopt tactical and strategic measures to prevent any possible destabilization posed by groups like Lukarawa, emphasizing the need to reassess current security frameworks in a way that would decisively deter emerging threats.
