In a heartfelt expression of sympathy, Hon Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, extended his condolences to the management and staff of three radio stations tragically affected by a fire incident in Aba.
The fire, which erupted late Saturday night, caused extensive damage to Enyimba 94.3 FM, Rose 101.9 FM, and Legend 98.3 FM. It reduced costly electronic and technical equipment to ashes, creating a significant setback for the stations and their personnel.
Speaking on the tragedy, Hon. Akaliro shared his sorrow over the loss and the severe economic impact it would have on the affected media houses.
“The news of the inferno was quite devastating and disheartening,” Akaliro remarked.
“While I understand the accompanying economic challenges, it is worthwhile to hold onto the fact that lives weren’t lost.”
He noted the importance of the safety of individuals amidst the heartbreaking destruction of valuable equipment and resources.
The Lawmaker also urged authorities to prioritize a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident.
“We must do everything possible to understand what led to this disaster,” he stated, stressing the need for preventive measures.
“A comprehensive investigation will help us uncover any factors that could be corrected or improved to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” he added.
Barr. Anderson Akaliro reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the media sector and called on stakeholders in the state to rally around the affected radio stations as they work to recover.
He emphasized the crucial role that these radio stations play in disseminating information, promoting local culture, and fostering community connections, noting that the loss impacted not only the stations but the larger community.
Hon. Akaliro’s show of solidarity highlights the shared loss felt across Abia State and reflects his commitment to ensuring that the media sector remains vibrant and resilient in the face of adversity.
