Abia Airport: Hon Anderson Akaliro Lauds Tinubu, FG for South-East Development Focus

The lawmaker representing Umuahia North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Anderson Akaliro Esq., has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for prioritizing the development of the South East region. 

Akaliro's commendation comes ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia Airport project, scheduled to begin next Tuesday.

The legislator highlighted the significance of the airport project, describing it as a milestone in addressing the infrastructure deficit in the region. 

"The Abia Airport is not just a project; it is a bold step toward enhancing economic opportunities in Abia State and the entire South East. 

It will boost trade, foster regional connectivity, and position the state as a major player in the nation's economy," Akaliro said.

The airport project, confirmed to be a Federal Government initiative, has received unwavering support from the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Otti. 

During his December media briefing, Otti clarified that while the project is federally led, the state government is committed to providing the necessary support to ensure its success.

Hon. Akaliro also commended the Federal Government for the recent establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), describing both initiatives as pivotal for Southeast’s growth. 

"These actions demonstrate President Tinubu's genuine interest in the development of the South East. 

We are grateful for his administration's commitment to balancing infrastructural development across Nigeria," he added.

The proposed Abia Airport is expected to serve as a critical hub for transportation and commerce, significantly reducing travel times and improving access to global markets for the region. Stakeholders and residents alike have expressed optimism that the project will bring transformative development to the state and beyond.

With construction set to commence soon, many view the project as a harbinger of renewed Federal-State collaboration aimed at fostering inclusive growth in Nigeria.
