Gov Otti Commends Abia NSCDC gallantry on International Civil Defence Organization Day 2025


As the world marked International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) Day 2025 under the theme "Civil Defence, Guarantee of Security for the Population," the Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in safeguarding lives and critical national assets.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, who was ably represented by SA Navy Commander MacDonald Uba, commended the NSCDC Abia State Command for its relentless efforts in ensuring peace and security across the state. 
He assured the personnel of his administration’s continued support in combating crime and maintaining law and order.

"The contribution of NSCDC to peacekeeping cannot be overemphasized," the governor noted, adding that his government would remain steadfast in providing the necessary resources to strengthen the corps' operations.

In his speech, Governor Otti highlighted the critical role of security agencies in ensuring a peaceful and conducive environment for economic growth and development. 
He noted that without security, progress in infrastructure, education, and commerce would be hampered. 
Gov. Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on crime and called for closer collaboration between the NSCDC and other security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and crisis response. 
He also assured officers of improved welfare and necessary logistics to enhance their efficiency.

In his address, the Commandant of the NSCDC Abia State Command, Aderemi Akinsola Akiose, praised the unwavering commitment and sacrifices of his officers in securing the state. 

He highlighted the corps' role in disaster response, crime prevention, and community safety.
"Our personnel have continued to demonstrate resilience and dedication in protecting lives and national assets. Their sacrifices in ensuring a peaceful and secure society cannot be overlooked," Akiose stated.

He also called on the public to collaborate with the NSCDC by providing timely information that could aid crime prevention and enhance community security.

Also speaking at the event, the Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Abia State Command, pledged his unwavering support for the NSCDC and expressed readiness to collaborate in ensuring a safer society.

Similarly, the Comptroller of Corrections, Abia State, applauded the strong partnership between his agency and the NSCDC. 
He commended Commandant Akiose for fostering inter-agency cooperation and pledged continued synergy to enhance security operations.

The Abia State Government further emphasized the importance of the NSCDC’s presence in securing critical infrastructure, responding to emergencies, and supporting law enforcement efforts across the state. 
Gov. Otti reiterated his administration’s resolve to enhance the operational capacity of the corps, stressing that a well-equipped NSCDC would contribute significantly to the state’s overall security framework. 
He urged officers to remain professional, diligent, and committed to their duties as partners in the government's vision for a safer Abia.

The high point of the event was the formal handing over of security gadgets to the NSCDC Abia State Command by the Governor, a move aimed at bolstering the corps' operational effectiveness in tackling security challenges.

The ICDO Day celebration in Abia State served as a reminder of the vital role of civil defence in nation-building, security, and emergency response, with key stakeholders emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies and the public.
