Umuahia, Abia State |August 18, 2025 —
The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has declared that the era of political blackmail and propaganda in Abia State is over.
He made this assertion while reacting to the August edition of “Governor Otti Speaks to Abians”, the governor’s monthly media interaction which focused on transparency, accountability, and truth in governance.
Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, Hon. Obioma said Governor Alex Otti’s forthright response to the false claim of a fictitious ₦54 billion expenditure on school renovations is proof that Abians now have a government anchored on integrity and not deceit.
“Blackmail will no longer dictate governance in Abia. For years, our people witnessed a culture where propaganda and lies were used as political weapons to cover up failure and corruption. Today, under Governor Otti, truth has taken over. Facts, audited accounts, and transparent leadership are now the guiding principles of governance,” Hon. Obioma stated.
The lawmaker commended Gov. Otti for prioritizing education through bold reforms and massive investments that directly impact young people across the state.
He noted that the governor’s decision to allocate 20 percent of the state budget to education is a clear sign of purposeful leadership.
“Instead of wasting energy defending lies, Gov Otti is channeling resources to rebuild schools, construct Smart Schools, upgrade tertiary institutions, and restore hope for our children. This is leadership that speaks for itself, and no amount of blackmail can change the reality on the ground,” Obioma emphasized.
Hon. Obioma also took a swipe at opposition figures who, according to him, thrive on falsehoods and political opportunism. He maintained that the people of Abia are now wiser and can see through the antics of those who once fed fat on propaganda.
“The truth is that Abians have rejected the old order. No one can distract this government with false narratives. Those who looted the state dry in the past cannot dictate the direction of a new Abia. Dr Alex Otti has made it clear that appointments and governance are based on merit, competence, and service, not on blackmail or selfish negotiation,” he declared.
The Chief Whip further assured Abians that the House of Assembly will continue to support the governor’s vision of building a transparent and accountable state. He said legislators are fully aligned with the people’s demand for a clean break from the past.
“As lawmakers, we stand firmly with the governor in entrenching transparency, accountability, and good governance. Our duty is to make laws and provide oversight that reflect the will of the people. Abians voted for change, and that change has truly come,” Obioma affirmed.
Hon. Obioma concluded by urging Abians to remain supportive of the Otti administration, stressing that truth and accountability will continue to guide governance in the state.
“The days when blackmailers thrived are gone. A new Abia has emerged under our governor, Alex Otti, one that puts people first, one that embraces truth, and one that is determined to build a future of hope and prosperity for all,” he concluded.
