In a gesture of goodwill and unity, the Igbo World Union (IWU) has extended warm Eid El-Fitr greetings to the Muslim faithful across Nigeria and beyond, urging Nigerians to embrace interfaith harmony for national progress.
In a statement released by the President-General of the Igbo World Union, His Imperial Majesty, Amb. Sir Dr. Mishak Nnanta, KJW, Gburugburu Ndigbo Dum, he congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid El-Fitr.
He emphasized that the period of Ramadan is one of deep spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and devotion, which aligns with the values of peace and unity that all religions uphold.
"On behalf of the entire Igbo World Union, I extend heartfelt felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters as they mark this joyous occasion of Eid El-Fitr. It is a time to celebrate the virtues of patience, kindness, and generosity, which are essential for a united and prosperous nation," Amb. Nnanta stated.
He further called for increased efforts in fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding among Nigeria’s diverse religious communities. According to Nnanta, the country can only achieve sustainable peace and development when people of all faiths learn to coexist peacefully, respecting each other’s beliefs and traditions.
"Nigeria is a land of rich cultural and religious diversity. It is imperative that we work together to strengthen interfaith relations, promote tolerance, and resist any form of division that threatens our unity. The Igbo World Union remains committed to building bridges across ethnic and religious lines," he added.
Sir Mishak Nnanta also urged Muslim faithful to carry forward the lessons of Ramadan by continuing to show compassion to the less privileged and contributing to the nation’s development through acts of charity, justice, and good governance.
The Igbo World Union, a socio-cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of Igbo unity and progress, has consistently advocated for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
The group reaffirmed its dedication to working with other religious and ethnic organizations to promote mutual understanding and national integration.
As Muslims across Nigeria and the world celebrate Eid El-Fitr, the call for interfaith harmony by the Igbo World Union serves as a reminder that collective efforts toward peace, tolerance, and unity remain vital for the country’s progress.
