Umuahia, Nigeria – May 12, 2025

Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and representative of Umuahia South State Constituency, joined clergy, government officials, and congregants at the Methodist Church Nigeria Synod Plenary of the Umuahia West Diocese on Sunday.

The event, held under the inspiring theme “We Shall Rise Again,” brought together distinguished figures including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, church leaders, and members of the wider Methodist community. The gathering was marked by prayer, reflection, and a renewed call to faith and unity during challenging times.

Speaking passionately at the plenary, Hon. Obioma reflected on the spiritual importance of the occasion and the personal significance the church holds in his life.

This diocese is not just where I worship, it is the foundation of my spiritual journey,” Obioma said.

The Methodist Church is my family church, and it has played a vital role in shaping who I am. It taught me the values of humility, service, and unwavering faith in God.”

He continued, emphasizing the resilience of the Church and the symbolic strength of the plenary’s theme:

The message ‘We Shall Rise Again’ is both timely and prophetic. It speaks to the hope we must continue to hold on to, as individuals and as a community. No matter the trials we face, our faith in God and our unity as a people will always lift us.”

Hon. Obioma also used the opportunity to reaffirm his steadfast support for the Church and its mission.

We owe it to this Church that has given us so much to always give back; not just with words, but with action. I remain committed to standing with the Church in every way possible.”

The plenary, which featured sessions of worship, prayers, deliberation, and community building, served as a reminder of the Methodist Church’s enduring influence in the lives of its members.

It also reinforced the strong bond between the church and public servants like Hon. Obioma, who continue to draw inspiration and direction from their faith.
