Umuahia, Abia State |September 5, 2025 —
The Umuahia South Women United for Progress (USWUP), a grassroots women’s association, has publicly declared their support for Hon. Emeka Obioma, Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and representative of Umuahia South State Constituency, citing visible achievements within his two years in office.
In a statement issued to newsmen, the women group commended Hon. Obioma’s efforts in prioritizing education, infrastructure, healthcare, and community development. According to them, his performance has set him apart as a representative with a people-first approach.
“Hon. Obioma has proven that leadership is about action, not words. In 2024, he sponsored over 70 students for UTME registration, and in 2025 that number rose to 255 candidates across all wards. That kind of investment in our children’s future shows true commitment,” they stated.
The group also highlighted Obioma’s interventions in the education sector through the renovation of Okwu Primary School in Olokoro and the imminent delivery of new desks to Amuzu Central School, Ubakala. “These are the types of tangible results we can see and touch. Our children now have a better learning environment, thanks to his efforts,” they added.
On infrastructure and community needs, USWUP praised the completion of borehole projects in communities such as Itaja Olokoro and Amibo Ubakala, as well as the tiling of the Itaja Olokoro Town Hall. They noted that ongoing water projects in Nsirimo and Umuobia Olokoro reflect continuity and sustainability.
“Access to clean water is life-saving, and Hon. Obioma has given our communities this gift,” they remarked.
The women further acknowledged Obioma’s commitment to healthcare through his sponsorship of the Nursing Education Bill, now passed into law, and his role in attracting a major health center project at Ehume Umuopara.
“We cannot overlook his contributions to healthcare. He has not only brought facilities but also ensured that over ten nurses were employed in ABSUTH and Abia PHC. That is progress we are proud of,” the group said.
They also applauded his role in resuming work on the Umuopara Ring Road, facilitating the Abia Tower-Onuimo Road project, and reconstructing the Holy Ghost–Ahiaukwu Olokoro Road.
In addition, they praised his support for the BanStopPrevent mental health advocacy campaign, which has raised awareness across communities in Umuahia South.
“With all these visible achievements in just two years, it is clear that Hon. Obioma has redefined representation. He is a man of results, not empty promises. This is why Umuahia South Women United for Progress is proud to stand firmly behind him,” the USWUP declared.
