The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, has urged residents of Umuahia South and Abians at large to remain vigilant and security-conscious as the Ember months begin.

In his message to his constituents, Obioma emphasized that while the last quarter of the year is often characterized by increased commercial and social activities, it is also a period that demands greater caution, responsibility, and unity within communities.

He noted that the Ember season, often stretching from September to December, has historically been associated with heightened risks, including road accidents, criminal activities, and social unrest due to the rush that usually accompanies end-of-year preparations.

The Ember months are a time of reflection and renewed determination to end the year on a positive note. However, they also come with challenges that require us to be more careful and deliberate about our choices,” Hon. Obioma stated.

Calling on residents to prioritize safety, he urged families, drivers, and community leaders to work together in maintaining peace and preventing avoidable tragedies.

I appeal to motorists to avoid over-speeding, drunk driving, and recklessness on our highways. Life is irreplaceable, and one careless action can lead to irreparable losses. Let us choose patience over haste,” he advised.

The lawmaker also highlighted the importance of community vigilance, stressing that criminals often take advantage of the festive rush to perpetrate evil.
He assured that the state government and security agencies are working hard to secure communities but insisted that safety begins with individual responsibility.

Security is everyone’s business. I encourage residents to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and support the efforts of law enforcement agencies. Together, we can make our communities safer during this season and beyond,” Hon. Obioma said.

Reaffirming his commitment to the well-being of his constituency, Hon. Obioma pledged continued partnership with security agencies and community leaders to ensure a safe environment for all. He also prayed for peace, protection, and prosperity for every family as the year draws to a close.
