The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Tommy Obioma, has joined the global community to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrating the strength, intelligence, and limitless potential of every girl while reaffirming his commitment to their empowerment, education, and protection.

Speaking, Hon. Obioma described the girl child as “a pillar of promise whose dreams, when nurtured, have the power to transform families, communities, and nations.”
He emphasized that ensuring equal access to education and opportunities for girls is not only a moral duty but also a strategic investment in the future of society.

Every girl deserves a voice, a dream, and a chance to shine,” Hon. Obioma declared.
When we educate and empower girls, we unlock an entire generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers who can build a better Nigeria. Our responsibility as leaders and parents is to create an environment where the girl child is not silenced, sidelined, or subjected to discrimination.”

The lawmaker expressed concern about the socio-cultural barriers that continue to hinder the advancement of girls, including gender-based violence, early marriage, and unequal access to education.
He called for collective action among parents, educators, religious institutions, and policymakers to break these barriers and promote inclusion and dignity for every girl.

It is time we rise above outdated mindsets that limit what our daughters can become,” Hon. Obioma said.
We must teach every girl that her voice matters, her dreams are valid, and her contribution is vital to the growth of our nation. When we empower one girl, we empower an entire community.”

Recounting his ongoing initiatives within Umuahia South, Hon. Obioma highlighted his education and youth empowerment programs, which have supported hundreds of students.
He reaffirmed his dedication to expanding these efforts to specifically target girls from low-income backgrounds, ensuring that no child is left behind due to gender or circumstance.

My vision is for every girl in our constituency to have equal access to quality education, digital skills, and a safe environment where she can thrive,” he added.
We must raise a generation of confident, intelligent, and God-fearing young women who will take their rightful place in shaping Nigeria’s future.”

Hon. Obioma concluded by saluting girls across Umuahia South, Abia State and Nigeria for their courage and resilience despite challenges, encouraging them to stay focused, pursue excellence, and hold on to faith in God’s plan for their lives.

To every girl out there, you are strong, you are precious, and you are destined for greatness. Keep shining and never doubt the value you bring to the world,” he affirmed.
