Abuja |October 9, 2025 —
The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has publicly declared his support for the proposed “Free Nnamdi Kanu” March scheduled for October 20, 2025, and organized by activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore.
In a press statement released on October 9, 2025, Hon. Aguocha said his decision to back the march was driven not only by his duty to his constituent, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but also by a broader moral responsibility to resist the persistent injustice and marginalization faced by the Igbo people.
“My attention has been drawn to the proposed peaceful protest for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, initiated by Omoyele Sowore,” the lawmaker stated.
“It is my understanding that the march is planned for 20th October 2025 at 7AM. By this press statement, I hereby wholeheartedly lend my support to the march.”
Hon. Aguocha, a strong advocate for justice, equity, and rule of law, reiterated that the continuous detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) despite numerous court rulings granting him release was a grave injustice that should no longer be tolerated.
“This is not merely about political affiliation or ideology,” Aguocha emphasized.
“It is about the sanctity of justice and the urgent need to end the unfair treatment meted out to Ndigbo. Nnamdi Kanu’s prolonged detention has become a symbol of selective justice and a wound on the conscience of our nation.”
The federal lawmaker further urged Nigerians across regions, faiths, and ethnic divides to recognize the importance of standing together against oppression and to join the peaceful march in solidarity.
“There comes a time in the affairs of nations when unusual situations demand unusual reactions,” he declared. “That time is now. Join us.”
Hon. Aguocha has consistently been vocal about the need for a political and lawful resolution to Nnamdi Kanu’s case. He has, on multiple occasions, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration prioritize reconciliation and national healing over repression.
The Free Nnamdi Kanu March, according to organizers, aims to be a peaceful demonstration of solidarity, calling on the federal government to release the detained IPOB leader and uphold the rule of law.
