Former governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has dismissed widespread rumours alleging his death, describing the claims as false, unfounded, and the handiwork of mischief makers.

Obiano made the clarification on Friday through a personal statement shared across his social media platforms.

In the statement addressed to Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers, the former governor expressed surprise at waking up to hear of the circulating rumour regarding his wellbeing. He assured the public that he is in excellent health and very much alive.

“My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers, I woke to hear of a rumour making the rounds about my wellbeing,” he wrote. “Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.”

Obiano lamented the increasing trend of false reports on social media, noting that some individuals still take delight in spreading misinformation for reasons he described as unclear. Despite this, he maintained that he remains focused and above such distractions.

“It is unfortunate that some individuals still find joy in spreading falsehood simply for reasons yet to be established. But we will continue to rise above such mischief,” he added.

The former governor used the opportunity to appreciate the numerous people who reached out through calls, messages, and prayers after hearing the rumour. He said their love, concern, and goodwill deeply touched him and reinforced his belief in the kindness of the people.

“To everyone who reached out with calls, messages, and prayers, I sincerely appreciate your concern. Your love and goodwill mean more than words can express,” he said.

Obiano urged the public to disregard the rumour entirely, assuring them that he remains grateful, strong in spirit, and guided by God’s grace. He ended his message with a prayer for God’s blessings upon the people of Anambra.

“Please disregard the rumour entirely. We remain focused, grateful, and guided by God’s grace. Daalu nu, and may God bless you all,” he concluded.

His clarification has since put an end to the anxiety the rumour generated among supporters and residents of Anambra State.
