A renewed appeal for peace has been issued across Abia State following yesterday’s court judgment concerning the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has called on Umuahia North constituents and the entire Eastern region to remain calm and uphold peace during this critical moment.

In a statement released shortly after the judgment, the lawmaker stressed the need for collective responsibility, emotional restraint, and adherence to lawful conduct.

He described the period as one that requires exceptional maturity from all citizens.
“This moment demands maturity, restraint, and collective responsibility from all our people,” Akaliro said. “No matter the emotions surrounding the outcome of yesterday’s court proceedings, we must remain guided by the principles of law, order, and peaceful coexistence.”

Hon. Akaliro warned that any form of unrest or disorder could jeopardize the stability and safety of communities within Abia State. He emphasized that the region has made considerable progress in maintaining harmony, and that such gains must not be reversed by impulsive reactions.

Our communities cannot afford any form of unrest, disorder, or actions capable of destabilizing the harmony we have worked tirelessly to maintain,” he cautioned.
I strongly urge all youths, community leaders, and stakeholders to stand firmly against violence or provocative conduct.”

The lawmaker encouraged residents to express their concerns or dissatisfaction through lawful channels rather than through acts that could endanger lives or public infrastructure. He insisted that constructive engagement remains the most effective path toward resolution.

Let us channel our concerns through lawful and constructive means,” he appealed. “The southeast must continue to thrive in stability and unity, no matter the tension or sentiment of the moment.”

Reaffirming his commitment to peacebuilding and community stability, Hon. Akaliro assured constituents of his continued partnership in dialogue, security advocacy, and the pursuit of policies that protect the well-being of the people.

As your representative, I reaffirm my commitment to fostering peace, supporting dialogue, and upholding the security and well-being of all citizens under my constituency,” he stated. “Together, we must rise above tension and demonstrate that the East remains a region of wisdom, calm, and respect for due process.”

He concluded with a resounding call for unity and calm across Abia State.
“Let peace prevail in our hearts, in our communities, and throughout our beloved Abia State,” Akaliro declared.
