Chief Mascot Uzor-Kalu (MUK) has called on Nigerians to use the spirit of Boxing Day as an opportunity to renew their commitment to compassion, community service, and collective responsibility, urging individuals and institutions alike to extend meaningful support to the less privileged in society.

In a Boxing Day message released on Friday, MUK described the season as a solemn reminder of shared humanity and the enduring values of kindness, generosity, and social solidarity. He noted that beyond the festivities, Boxing Day offers a moment for sober reflection on the plight of vulnerable populations and the role of citizens in building a more inclusive society.

Boxing Day is not merely a public holiday; it is a moral call to action,” MUK said. “It reminds us that true celebration is found in lifting others, in standing with the poor, the forgotten, and those whose voices are rarely heard.”

He emphasized that community welfare must remain a collective priority, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved where inequality, neglect, and indifference persist. According to him, societies thrive when citizens consciously cultivate empathy and channel resources toward uplifting those in need.

Our communities grow stronger when we look beyond ourselves,” he stated. “Supporting the less privileged is not an act of charity alone; it is a responsibility we owe one another as members of the same society.”

Uzor-Kalu also urged well-meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies, faith-based organizations, and community leaders to intensify outreach efforts, particularly during the festive season, when economic hardship often weighs heavily on vulnerable families.

The joy of the season should not be reserved for a few,” he added. “We must ensure that widows, orphans, persons with disabilities, and struggling households feel a sense of belonging and hope. Even the smallest act of kindness can restore dignity and inspire resilience.”

Reaffirming his personal commitment to community welfare, MUK reiterated his resolve to continue supporting initiatives that promote social inclusion, human development, and grassroots empowerment. He called for unity across social, ethnic, and religious lines, noting that solidarity remains the foundation of lasting peace and progress.

As we reflect on the meaning of Boxing Day, let us choose unity over division and compassion over complacency,” Uzor-Kalu said. “Together, we can build communities where no one is left behind and where our shared humanity is reflected in our actions.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful and fulfilling Boxing Day, expressing hope that the values of love, generosity, and service would endure beyond the festive season and guide national life in the year ahead.
