Abia State |December 29, 2025 —
In a remarkable demonstration of community engagement and health advocacy, Hon Onyekwere Akym Uche, founder of the OAU Foundation, alongside the Attorney General of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna SAN, yesterday, led the “Walk for Life” charity walk.
The event brought together residents from various walks of life to promote fitness, wellness, and social responsibility.
The walk, which spanned several kilometers, was designed to encourage healthy living while raising awareness about the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being. Participants carried banners with messages such as “Health is Wealth” and “Your Fitness Matters,” reflecting the dual goals of the campaign: wellness and community solidarity.
Addressing journalists during the walk, Onyekwere Akym Uche emphasized the significance of prioritizing health.
“Walking is more than just physical activity; it is a lifestyle choice that strengthens our bodies and minds,” he said.
“Through the ‘Walk for Life’ initiative, we want to remind our people that their health is their greatest asset. When we take care of ourselves, we can contribute more meaningfully to our families, communities, and society at large.”
Akym also highlighted the charitable aspect of the initiative, explaining that proceeds and donations collected would support local health programs and aid vulnerable families across Abia State.
“Part of our mission is to ensure that the benefits of this walk extend beyond today,” he said. “Funds raised will go towards supporting community health centers, providing medical supplies, and helping families in need. Health, charity, and community can all work together to transform lives.”
Participants praised the initiative for combining fitness with social responsibility. Many expressed excitement at walking alongside prominent leaders like OAU and Uwanna, describing the experience as motivational and inspiring.
Reflecting on the broader vision of the program, OAU stated, “We hope ‘Walk for Life’ becomes a regular event, a tradition that unites citizens each year around the ideals of health, wellness, and giving back. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger, and more compassionate society.”
Through the “Walk for Life” charity walk, the OAU Foundation, in partnership with the Abia State government, has set a powerful example of how leadership, wellness advocacy, and social responsibility can intersect to impact society positively.
