Defections Into APC Indicate Strong Political Realignment in Abia - Hon. Anderson Akaliro

Umuahia, October 4, 2024 — The political landscape in Abia State is witnessing significant shifts as numerous defections into the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue, signaling deeper alignments ahead of upcoming elections.

Hon Barr Anderson Akaliro, the member representing Umuahia North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, has described the current wave of defections as an indication of a broad political realignment.

Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia, Akaliro noted that the mass movement of politicians from various parties into the APC showcases the growing influence and appeal of the party, both at the state and national levels.
"The level of defection into the APC tells a lot about the political realignments currently taking place," he said.
"It shows that key players across different constituencies are beginning to recognize the need for a unified political front in driving development and governance."

The Abia State lawmaker, a member of the APC himself, emphasized that the ongoing shift underscores the party's readiness to address the challenges facing the state and the nation at large.

This is not just about personal interests. There is a genuine ideological shift happening, where people are coming to terms with the need for cohesion in our approach to governance. As we move closer to elections, we will see more alignment and realignment of political forces,” Akaliro added.

The spate of defections, particularly from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition groups, has raised eyebrows in political circles, with analysts suggesting it could be a sign of weakening opposition in the state. However, Akaliro reassured citizens that these changes would result in better representation and governance for the people of Abia State and Nigeria as a whole.

As the political climate heats up, the APC looks to solidify its gains by welcoming more defectors and forming coalitions that could play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the next elections.
