Gombe State

A total of 390 ex-insurgents have graduated from a deradicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration program in Gombe State.

The program, designed to equip them with skills for self-reliance, included vocational training in various areas.

According to the camp commandant, Colonel Johnson Abiodun, the ex-insurgents were trained in skills such as barbing, shoe making, welding, tailoring, carpentry, bakery, electrical repairs, laundry services, and integrated farming.

The Clients confessed their pasts, denounced their membership of the sect and swore an oath of allegiance to be loyal, obedient and responsible citizens promising not to rejoin the sect or any other unlawful organisation,” Abiodun said.

The clients, who hailed from various states in Nigeria and some neighbouring countries, also participated in transitional justice systems, including phone calls and stakeholders’ visitations, to build their confidence and create room for genuine reconciliation and reintegration.

The graduation ceremony included the administration of the Oath of Allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where the clients swore to be loyal citizens without compulsion or duress.
