Umuahia, Abia State —
Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has described women as the heartbeat of Umuahia South, praising their central role in sustaining families, promoting unity, and driving grassroots development.
Speaking during the 2025 Women’s August Meeting celebrations across Umuahia South communities, Hon. Obioma emphasized that the annual gathering is not only a cultural heritage but also a platform for women to chart the course for peace, reconciliation, and progress in society.
“Our mothers and sisters are the heartbeat of Umuahia South. They are the backbone of our families, the keepers of our traditions, and the silent strength behind every progress we record as a people. This August Meeting is a celebration of your sacrifices and your vision for our communities,” Obioma declared.
He noted that women have always played a unique role in preserving peace and building bridges of unity in Umuahia South, stressing that their influence extends beyond the home into every aspect of community life.
“You are not just home makers, you are nation builders. Through your prayers, wisdom, and resilience, you have sustained peace in our land. Through your ability to organize, you have spearheaded schools, health centres, and community projects that still serve us today,” he said.
The lawmaker further assured the women of his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote their empowerment in education, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and political participation.
“As your representative, I will continue to stand by you. My focus is to see our women rise to greater heights, whether in small businesses, leadership roles, or community development. Empowering women is not an option, it is a necessity for the future of Umuahia South,” Obioma affirmed.
He also charged the women to remain united, prayerful, and proactive in mentoring the younger generation, noting that their moral guidance and values are essential in addressing contemporary challenges facing the youth.
“The future of Umuahia South depends on the values we instill in our children today. I encourage you to keep nurturing with love, keep guiding with wisdom, and keep praying for our land. Your role is irreplaceable,” Obioma urged.
