August Meeting: Obi Aguocha Commends Ikwuano/Umuahia Women’s Role in Peace, Unity and Development

Abia |August 18, 2025 —

Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has hailed the women of his constituency for their resilience, sacrifices and invaluable contributions to peace, unity and development during the 2025 Women’s August Meeting.

Speaking, Hon. Aguocha described the annual August Meeting as not only a cultural heritage but also a platform for women to renew their bond of sisterhood, deliberate on community challenges, and map out ways to build stronger families and societies.

The August Meeting is more than a tradition. It is a platform where our mothers and sisters demonstrate unity, wisdom and vision. It has become a veritable instrument for peace-building, conflict resolution and community development in Igboland,” Aguocha said.

The lawmaker emphasized that no community or nation can prosper without the active involvement of women, noting that their role in molding the next generation and sustaining family values remains irreplaceable.

Our women are the true heartbeat of Ikwuano/Umuahia. They carry the burdens of families with strength and dignity, and their voices have always guided our communities toward peace and harmony. As your representative, I will continue to support initiatives that empower women socially, politically and economically,” he added.

Hon. Aguocha also urged the women to remain united and prayerful, stressing that their collective efforts are crucial in addressing contemporary challenges such as moral decline among youths, rural underdevelopment, and the need for greater political participation by women.

I encourage you never to underestimate your influence. Your unity is the glue that holds our communities together, and your prayers are the unseen force that sustains our land. Continue to stand firm, and together, we will build a constituency where peace, justice and progress thrive,” he charged.

The lawmaker assured the gathering that he would continue to prioritize programs and policies that uplift women across the constituency, ranging from education and healthcare support to empowerment projects that improve their livelihoods.
