Abia State |August 18, 2025 —
The 2025 August Meeting in Umuahia North was marked with celebration, unity, and recognition as Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, hailed women for their resilience, contributions, and leadership in shaping families and communities.
The August Meeting, a cultural and social gathering of women across Igboland, has long been a platform for discussing development, promoting peace, and strengthening family values.
In his address, Hon. Akaliro commended the women for their unwavering role as the custodians of culture and drivers of community growth.
“Our mothers and sisters remain the pillars upon which our families and communities stand. Through your efforts, you have continued to preserve our values, promote peace, and support the development of our constituency,” Akaliro said.
He noted that the August Meeting was more than a cultural tradition, describing it as a rallying point for women to share ideas, resolve issues, and contribute to the growth of their localities.
According to him, women’s voices are indispensable in governance, education, health, and community building.
“The truth is that no society can rise without the active involvement of its women. I am proud of the women of Umuahia North who, year after year, use this platform to mobilize resources for development, support education, and foster unity,” he added.
Hon. Akaliro further assured the women of his continued support in their initiatives, particularly in areas that enhance the welfare of families and youths.
He emphasized the need for collaboration between leaders and women’s groups to address pressing issues such as youth empowerment, healthcare, and education.
“As your representative, I will continue to stand with you. I will partner with our women groups to expand opportunities for our daughters and ensure that our mothers have access to the support they need. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Umuahia North,” Akaliro pledged.
He also praised the organizational strength and vision of the women who planned this year’s August Meeting, describing it as a reflection of their commitment to collective progress.
“The beauty of the August Meeting is in its spirit of togetherness. It shows the power of women when they unite for a common cause. I am deeply encouraged by what I have seen today, and I urge you never to relent in your efforts,” he remarked.
