Umuahia, Abia State |August 29, 2025 –
The Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma, has called on all eligible constituents to take advantage of the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Obioma emphasized that the voter registration process remains the primary avenue through which citizens can secure their right to participate in the democratic process. He urged those who have not registered before, those who misplaced their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and those who wish to transfer their voter details to do so within the stipulated period.
Speaking on the importance of active civic participation, Hon. Obioma said, “The power of change lies in the ballot. If you have not registered, you are denying yourself the right to decide who governs you. This registration window is not just an opportunity but a civic duty that every eligible Nigerian must embrace.”
The lawmaker further stressed that democracy flourishes only when citizens actively engage in shaping the leadership of their communities and nation.
“Our voices can only be heard when we have our PVCs. I am urging all constituents of Umuahia South and indeed Abians at large to see this exercise as a priority. It is not enough to complain about governance; we must also take the necessary steps to influence it,” Obioma noted.
He commended INEC for their efforts and initiative towards inclusivity and wider participation.
“The process has been simplified. Whether online or at designated centers, INEC has made it easier for everyone to register. We must not let this chance pass us by,” he added.
Obioma also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and religious institutions to sensitize their members on the importance of voter registration. According to him, grassroots mobilization remains key to ensuring massive turnout. “Leadership is about representation, and representation is only made possible through the ballot. I encourage everyone to register and prepare to vote when the time comes,” he said.
The ongoing voter registration exercise, according to INEC, is expected to run for several weeks, giving eligible citizens ample time to participate. However, Obioma urged his constituents not to wait until the last minute.
“Let us act now. Do not postpone your registration. Your PVC is your power, your voice, and your right,” he concluded.
