As the world celebrates Father’s Day, Hon. Emeka Obioma, the Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, has paid glowing tribute to fathers in Umuahia South and across Nigeria, describing them as the "unsung heroes" of family and society.
In a heartfelt message released on Sunday, Hon. Obioma extolled the virtues of responsible fatherhood and acknowledged the silent sacrifices, tireless efforts, and unwavering love that fathers demonstrate every day in building homes, nurturing children, and holding communities together.
"Today, I salute all fathers who wake up every morning with the weight of responsibility on their shoulders, yet continue to lead their families with dignity, integrity, and purpose," Hon. Obioma stated.
"You are our unsung heroes, the strength behind the scenes, the anchors of our homes, and the silent architects of our future."
Hon. Obioma noted that while society often celebrates visible accomplishments, many fathers perform their roles with little recognition, yet their impact is immeasurable. He emphasized the need for renewed appreciation and support for fathers, especially in an age where values and family structures face growing challenges.
"Fathers are not just providers; they are protectors, mentors, spiritual leaders, and role models. Their presence in the lives of their children helps shape discipline, character, and vision," he added.
"As we celebrate Father’s Day, let us remember to value and uplift the men who quietly carry out this divine mandate."
The lawmaker, known for his strong advocacy for family values and youth development, also used the occasion to call for policies that strengthen family life and support responsible fatherhood. He urged churches, communities, and government institutions to collaborate in mentoring young men to become positive examples of leadership in their homes and society.
"In today’s world, where distractions and pressures are everywhere, we must guide our boys and young men to grow into responsible, God-fearing fathers. This is not just a family goal but a societal mission," Obioma said.
"When fathers are empowered and guided right, generations benefit."
He further encouraged fathers to never lose sight of their spiritual role, citing Ephesians 6:4; “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” According to him, a father’s legacy is not in wealth alone, but in the values he imparts.
Hon. Obioma concluded his message with prayers for strength, wisdom, and long life for all fathers. He also commended single fathers and guardians who have stepped up to play both paternal and maternal roles, saying they deserve special recognition on this day.
"To every father, every mentor, every guardian, thank you for standing strong, even when no one is watching. Your faithfulness, your resilience, your love, they mean more than words can express. Happy Father’s Day!" he said.
